Rex Hermansen

Rex R. Hermansen, the son of T.S. and Clara (Rasmussen) Hermansen, was born at Dannebrog, Nebraska on March 21, 1921 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on April 6, 2003, at the age of 82.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peder's Lutheran Church at Nysted, Nebraska. Rex attended school District 74 in Howard County through the 8th grade. He moved with his family to Texas in 1936 and graduated from Blessing High School in 1940. In November 1942, he entered the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater with the 101st Air Borne as a paratrooper during World War II. Upon his discharge in 1945, he returned to Hamilton County and started farming with his dad and brother, Leif, northeast of Marquette.

On August 21, 1948 Rex was united in marriage to Bonnie Benson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kronborg. He continued to farm and they moved to Aurora in 1984.

Through the years he served on St. John's Lutheran Church Council, Marquette School Board, Aurora and Marquette Elevator Boards, was a member of the Hamilton County Livestock Feeders Assoc. and American Legion. Rex enjoyed bowling, golf and since retiring, gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Shirley Anderson and granddaughter, Megan Christenson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Bonnie of Aurora; daughter, Julie (Roger) Christenson of Aurora; son, Todd (Donna) Hermansen of Marquette; two granddaughters, Tamera (Robert) Wert of Aurora and Brooke Christenson and fiancée Chad Cose both of Lincoln; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Bryce and Riley Wert all of Aurora. He is also survived by two brothers, Leif Hermansen of Aurora and Kermit of Cassville, MO and three sisters, Selma Sorensen of Tyler, MN, Alpha Christensen of Adams, NE and Barbara Handrup of Aurora.
