Phyllis Vogel

CAIRO -- Phyllis M. Vogel, 62, of Cairo died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at her home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Cairo with the Revs. Eldon Elsberry and Randy Julian officiating. Burial will be in Cameron Cemetery south of Cairo.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Vogel was born on Sept. 4, 1937, on a farm east of Dannebrog to Guston and Dora (Becker) Lemburg. When she was 4, her family moved to Grand Island. She was educated in the Grand Island public schools.

She married Franklin E. Vogel on May 27, 1955, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Grand Island. The couple lived in Cairo until 1959, when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. She worked for the nursery at Calvary Baptist Church in Colorado Springs.

The couple moved back to Cairo in 1968 to own and operate Vogel Salvage. Mr. Vogel died in January 1998.

Mrs. Vogel was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Women's Mission Circle and the Christian Women's Club.

Survivors included two sons, Douglas of Grand Island and Ty of Cairo; two daughters, Jane Schipman and Kay Fielding of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Willis of Cairo, Mervin of Mesa, Ariz., and Lowen of Lincoln; and two sisters, Elaine Grim of Dannebrog and Lois Drake of New Jacksonville, Tenn.

Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren and three brothers, Leroy Lemburg and two infant brothers.
