Mildred Christensen
Mildred A. Christensen, 93, of Grand Island
died Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Central City Care Home in Central City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the
Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. David Zellmer will officiate.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Oakridge Cemetery at Dannebrog.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Mrs. Christensen was born July 17, 1909, to
Carl and Camilla (Pedersen) Jessen at the family farm near Dannebrog.
Survivors of the immediate family include a
son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Sharon Christensen of Osceola, and a daughter,
Donna Jean Andersen of Grand Island.
Also surviving are five grandchildren and
spouses, Debra and Mike Coleman, Brenda and Duane Boeke, Tiffany and Galen
Meysenburg, Cindy Christensen and Randall and Jannell Andersen; six
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mildred received her elementary education at
rural school District No. 31 near Dannebrog and attended the Dannebrog High
School.
On June 8, 1932, she was united in marriage
to Thorwald C. Christensen at Dannebrog. The couple made their home and farmed
near Dannebrog for 40 years. In 1972, the couple retired and moved to Grand
Island. For the last three years, Mildred and her husband resided at the
Central City Care Center. Mr. Christensen preceded her in death on March 31,
2003.
She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran
Church of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents and
husband, Thorwald.
