La Mae Burroughs

La Mae Burroughs, 87, of Grand Island, formerly of Dannebrog, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare Lakeview.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Julie Bringelson will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to Columbia Hall Restoration Fund in Dannebrog.

Mrs. Burroughs was born Jan. 30, 1915, at Dannebrog to Andrew and Toledo (Fisher) Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Dannebrog. She was a 1933 graduate of Dannebrog High School. She was first employed at a beauty ship in Grand Island.

She married Earl Burroughs on Nov. 15, 1937. Her husband was a photographer and in their early years, the couple traveled throughout Texas and Oklahoma. In the 1950s, they lived in Grand Island where they operated the Le Ray Photography Studio. Her husband died in 1956. She was employed by the Rollie Photography Studio in Grand Island. She lived in Grand Island until 1980 when she moved to Dannebrog to care for her mother. After her mother's death, she continued to live in Dannebrog until entering Beverly Healthcare Lakeview in March 1995.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.

Survivors include a niece and her husband, Sandy and Jake Mensik of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother, Guido Nelson.
