ST. PAUL -- Jarda E. Swanson, 87, of
St. Paul died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at the Howard County Community Hospital
in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Don Lovell will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery at Dannebrog.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m.
Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the
family's choice.
Miss Swanson was born on April 24,
1911, in a sod house near Westerville to Joseph and Elenora (Malm) Swanson. She
attended rural school in that area and later graduated from a high school
there. She grew up on the family ranch. She attended Grand Island Baptist
College and was a graduate of Kearney State Teachers College.
She taught rural school in Custer
County and then at Berwyn. She later taught in the Scottsbluff elementary
school system.
She moved to Glen Ellyn, Ill., in
1947. She earned a master's degree in administration and supervision from the
National College of Education in Evanston, Ill. She taught art at the college
level. She lived with a special friend, Esther Sorensen.
She taught in the Hawthorne
elementary school system in Glen Ellyn until retiring in 1975.
She served as chairwoman of the
Christian Education Committee and the building committee of Glen Ellyn Bible
Church.
She stayed in Glen Ellyn until 1981,
when she and Esther Sorensen moved to Rockford, Ill. She moved to the St. Paul
area in 1995 and to Parkside Plaza in St. Paul in February 1996.
She enjoyed traveling and painting.
She helped to develop student teachers and recognize their ability.
Survivors include three brothers, Ted
of Dannebrog, Fennett of Yankton, S.D., and Paul of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by four
brothers, Melvin, Arvid, Leonard and an infant brother, Ted.
