Florence Christensen

DANNEBROG -- Florence M. Christensen, 89, of Dannebrog died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at the Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. Rev. Robert Carlson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Christensen was born Dec. 13, 1911, on a farm between Dannebrog and Nysted to Lauritz and Flora (Nielsen) Feddersen. She attended country school through the 8th grade, then Dannebrog High School where she graduated in 1928.

She married Earl Christensen on June 16, 1937, at Rockport, Mo. The couple lived in Omaha for approximately one year before returning to Dannebrog where Mrs. Christensen remained until entering Lakeview Nursing Center on Dec. 1, 2001, due to advanced leukemia.

She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog and a 58-year member of the original Dannebrog Bridge Club. She was an avid knitter and instructed students at Sears and Miller and Paine Department Stores in Grand Island. In her later years she also conducted knitting classes in surrounding areas through Central Community College and at her home.

She also enjoyed reading, sewing and politics.

Survivors include one son and a daughter-in-law, Dustin and Jeanine Christensen of Grand Island; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon K and Wayne Sheldon of North Loup; one sister, Marie Gdanitz of Elba; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Sigurd, Chris, Ernest, Vernon and Howard; and three sisters, Astrid Christensen, Thyra Toof and Grace Kunze.
