Erma
V. Brittain, 78, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at her home.
Services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
The Rev. Sheri Loedel will officiate.
Burial
will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island.
Visitation
will be Saturday morning 8:30 a.m. until service time at Apfel-Butler-Geddes
Funeral Home.
Mrs.
Brittain was born August 29, 1924, at Dannevirke to Chris and Edith (Jensen)
Nielsen.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Brittain, Jr.
Survivors
of the immediate family include one son and a daughter-in-law, James and Linda
Brittain of Hagerstown, Md.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lou Anne and Fred
Glover of Grand Island and Theresa Brittain of Grand Island; one brother, Chris
Nielsen of Englewood, Colo.; and two sisters, Doris Haney of Grand Island and
Eda Mae Jensen of Norfolk.
Additional
survivors include three grandchildren, Heather Watson of Grand Island,
Stephanie Glover of Boston, and Brittain John Glover of Lincoln; and two
great-grandchildren, Chelsey and Haley Watson of Grand Island.
She
grew up at Dannevirke where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran
Faith, She attended District #29 and in 1938 she moved to Dannebrog where she
graduated from high school. Following graduation from high school, she was
employed as a nanny for several years in Chicago and later worked for Western
Union in Denver.
She
was united in marriage to John T. Brittain Jr., March 5, 1946, at St. Mary's
Rectory in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island.
Mrs.
Brittain enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, golfing, and
neighborhood coffees. She belonged to card clubs, an Extension club, and
enjoyed crocheting.
She
was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Virgil, Louie,
Marinus and baby Earl.
