Alice Fries
ST. PAUL -- Alice E. "Grandma" Fries, 95, of St. Paul, died Dec.
12, 2000, at the Howard County Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran church in
Dannebrog. The Rev. Robert Carlson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be from 5 to
8 p.m. Thursday at the Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul
Memorials are suggested to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Fries was born Nov. 20, 1905, to Ernest and Kate Soulliere Myers at
Cairo. She received her education at Cairo. She was employed in domestic work.
On June 22, 1927, she married Harry H. Fries at grand Island. The couple
made their home and farmed in the Cleveland area near Dannebrog. In 1976 the
couple retired from farming and moved into St. Paul.
Mr. Fries died on April 19, 1979. She made her home in St. Paul until 1980,
when she moved to Dannebrog. In 1997 she returned to St. Paul to make her home
with her daughter.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Dannebrog, the
Dannebrog American Legion Post Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors of America.
She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge.
She enjoyed playing cards, embroidery, baking pies, rye bread and cookies.
She also enjoyed traveling, dancing and watching sports that her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren participated in.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Volkl of Grand Island; three sons,
Lyle and David of Cairo and Richard of Dannebrog; 12 grandchildren; 10
step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Howard and Wayne and two
great-grandchildren.
