Allan Maynard Hannibal
LIVERMORE, Calif. — Allan
Maynard Hannibal, 83, of Livermore, Calif., brother of Leota Beebe of North
Platte, died Aug. 15, 2003, in Livermore, Calif.
He was born Nov. 4, 1919, to Sankey and Clara Stiefvater Hannibal at Elba. He
grew up in a small Danish community named Dannebrog, where he graduated from
high school in 1937. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was
trained for the position of control tower operator. He met the qualifications
to become an Air Force Cadet and received his “Wings” in 1943. He qualified to
fly B-25 bombers and upon graduation from Multiple Engine Flight training was
chosen to be a flight instructor in B-24’s and later was assigned to B-29’s.
On March 23, 1943, he married Alaire Pulliam of Burwell. Two daughters were
born to this union, Alee Zurcher of MiWuk, Calif., and Teri Shilling of
Fremont, Calif.
Mr. Hannibal instructed in single engine planes following his army service and
later retired from a position with Boise Cascade in Vancouver, Wash., where
they lived for 39 years. They moved to Livermore, Calif., in 1985 to be near
their two daughters and families.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years; two daughters; two sisters, Leota Beebe
of North Platte and Charlotte Clause of Edina, Minn.; sister-in-law, Juanita
Hannibal of Topeka, Kan.; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Russell Hannibal.
